Adapted from Scranton, B., and Tuftie, E., 1997, after an original by Reinhardt, A., 1946, entitled How to Look at Things Through a Wine-Glass, (Source: Tufte, E., 1997, Visual Explanations, Images and Quantities, Evidence and Narrative, Graphic Press, p 119).

In this spoof on some well-known twentieth century artistic movements the wine glass is the common motif. The style that portrays the movement needs to be identyable for the humour to work as well as it does.

In the source publication, Tufte uses the series not only as an example of how multiples can tell a story but also, in relation to visual explanations, the use of grids, "call-outs" and, the integration of multiple elements into a common field.
