Alberto Viani (Quistello 1906) Figure Pen and black ink; 695 x 491 mm. Venice, private collection. (Source: Pignatti, Terisio, 1982, Master Drawings: From Cave Art to Picasso, Evans Brothers, London, p 366).

Viani, who died in 1989, was best known as a sculptor. This drawing is typical of a prevelent twentieth century style, characterised by an economical use of flowing contour lines that define voluminous form, that may be described as 'minimal'.
